Dream team: our magazine receives some kudos, a credit to a savvy group.

Publishing a successful magazine in a digital-crazed world is an exciting, complicated trick. Fortunately for our company and others, a lot of people still enjoy holding and reading books, magazines and newspapers in those rare moments when they aren't staring at a computer or cellphone screen.

Business North Carolina's mission is to create a monthly piece of art that is worthy of readers who love our state and seek insight into its business community. Hopefully, observers have noticed the magazine's peppier, fresher look in recent months, which is a credit to four colleagues skilled in art and design.

Leading the charge is Art Director Kathryn Galloway, who has worked for our parent company in Southern Pines since graduating from UNC Greensboro in 2007. "Such an established publication with such stellar writing and content deserves some visual eye candy," Kathryn says. "I've learned to look at a page as a canvas for the stories, providing a cohesive and attractive combination of typography and art to flow organically with the text. I love my job, and working with BNC has been icing on the cake."

Combining solid content with eye-catching design separates ordinary magazines from the leaders, which is a key focus for Senior Editor Allison Williams and Design/ Production Director Moira Johnson. Allison joined us last year from The Fayetteville Observer and its magazine affiliate, bringing some eastern North Carolina common sense and an impressive mix of writing, editing and design skills.
