Here's one answer to the question of how to get that message out that community banks have been fiscally responsible and don't need bailouts.

Early this year, Worthington National Bank (assets: $185 million), Fort Worth, Texas, put three put up three billboards poking fun at big banks that took federal bailout money. "Did Your Bank Take a Bailout? We Didn't," read one.

The billboards were located a high-volume spots, all within a mile of the bank office.
