As a long-time on-again, off-again subscriber, I am disappointed by The Progressive's move to "new, bigger, bimonthly" issues. Instead of justifying the change as an opportunity to publish "in-depth" reports with longer articles, you should highlight the need to cut back on expenses in an ever-growing, competitive progressive media environment. Beneath the publisher's and editors rationale is the simple fact that the magazine is under serious financial pressure to maintain its legendary high quality and political timeliness.

Don't get me wrong. The Progressive is important in the lives of those who want to make America a better, safer, and more equitable society. The failure of the Democrats to stop the decades-long assault on American values has made the magazine more...
