DNC track turns into a short line.

PositionCharlotte

Leading up to the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, the host committee kept saying fundraising was "right on track." But somewhere along the line it ran off the rails. Hampered by a promise not to accept corporate donalions, the committee raised about $12 million less than its original goal and fell well short of what the 2008 DNC host committee in Denver raised. The gap required it to tap a line of credit provided by Charlotte-based Duke Energy Corp. It must repay the loans, most of which came from Charlotte-based Bank of America Corp., by the end of February. Time will tell if the 2012 convention's direct economic impact will match 2008's, which generated $133.5 million for the Denver metro.
