The Alaska economy is known for producing in four main sectors: oil and gas, tourism, fishing and timber. In 2001, employment in these four sectors accounted for 16.2 percent of the total non-farm work force. In 2006, five years later, the employment in these four sectors had risen to 16.4 percent. This change represents an increase of almost 5,000 jobs.
