WITH SO MANY DIGITAL PRINTERS AND PRESSES NOW AVAILABLE, WE BREAK DOWN THE SPECIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES OF WHAT SOME OF THE LABEL, INDUSTRY'S LEADING SUPPLIERS HAVE TO OFFER.
Afinia Label's Memjet-powered L801 Color Label Printer is ideal for short- to mid-label runs and produces high-resolution, full-color labels at speeds up to 60 feet per minute. The printer also features what Afinia touts as industry-leading cost of ownership and holds 1.25 liters of ink to support large runs. The L801 has three print modes: Roll to Roll, Roll to Cut, and Print & Hold. With the L801 Color Label Printer, Afinia says the ink cost for a 4" x 5" label with 75% coverage is about $0.03/each.
To complement the L801 Color Label Printer, Afinia s DLF-1000 is a full-feature label finishing system designed to perform all the functions of large, more expensive systems, in a compact, tabletop design. The DLF-1000 can digitally finish printed rolls from Afinia Label's L801 and R635 color label printers. Labels can be cut to any shape or size, without dies.
Afinia Label's DLP-2000 Digital Label Press utilizes Memjet printing technology in line with a complete finishing system. This press is able to print, laminate, di-cut, slit, and roll 7,200 4"x6" labels per hour, all in one process, on one machine. The DLP-2000 is an easy-to-use system that costs a fraction of other all-in-one presses, the company says.

The iTech CENTRA HS Digital Label System from ADSI combines the iTech CENTRA HS Digital Label Printer with the iTech CENTRA HS Digital Label Finisher. It's a complete roll-to-roll solution for what the company says is a fraction of the cost of other digital presses, along with low, on-going operational expenses.
The LED toner iTech CENTRA HS Digital Label Printer is designed to print consumer-quality labels with brilliant, durable, consistent color at 1200 dpi X 600 dpi, at speeds up to 30 feet per minute. It delivers high definition printing with four-color stochastic screening. With a maximum width of 12.9", the printer has a wide degree of substrate flexibility that does not require top coating. The CENTRA HS prints on most standard pressure sensitive paper substrates, which, the company says, are typically half to one-third the cost of inkjet substrates. White, metallic and clear polyester films are also available.
Included with all iTech HS printers is Wasatch SoftRIP software that manages all print job parameters. The intuitive layout features enable users to maximize substrate usage to minimize waste. A full suite of color control capabilities--ICC color management, tone curve reproduction, powerful spot color replacement features--enhances the print quality. The SoftRIP's color atlas generator internally produces 36,000 process tints for spot color matching and also has an on-board label cost estimating tool. A variable data print option is available, enabling sequential numbering and bar codes along with graphic elements.
Colordyne Technologies' (CDT) new Memjet-powered CDT 3600 Series features an enhanced precision web handling system which provides flexibility and modularity supporting custom configurations, while having easy upgradeability across all the major assemblies. Key to the 3600 is a new print engine with Memjet Waterfall technology, which provides speeds up to 225 feet per minute at full color resolutions up to 1600 x 1375 dpi. The system incorporates broad web substrate support and management through a partnership with PCMC to provide the...
