In the same way that the compact disc revolutionized the audio industry, digital light processing technology is changing graphics and video projection systems, according to Ian McMurray, a Texas Instrument spokesperson. Based on the Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) semiconductor developed by the company, DLP creates the final link to display digital visual information.

The DMD has an array of up to 1.3 million microscopic mirrors to efficiently reflect light, creating a high-resolution image, McMurray explained. Each mirror exists on a hinge and is controlled by static electricity, switching on and off to reflect or not reflect light.
