The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been tasked with new cybersecurity responsibilities.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) officially put the DHS in charge of all civilian agency computer networks, according to Federal News Radio. DHS was also asked to assist in securing both the federal civilian government systems and the private sector.

In addition to the implementation and management of the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 (FISMA), DHS oversees critical infrastructure protection, operates the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team, and implements the Trusted Internet Connection initiative.
