The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said it will implement a new department-wide electronic records management system to help it better store, retrieve, and archive electronic documents.

DHS officials told FCW.com that a pilot program will begin in 2010 and will allow more efficient records management and enhanced searchabililty. The new system will allow employees to store records from their desktop PCs and to delete them according to record schedules.

Currently, DHS does not have a department-wide system that enables its staff to search and archive electronic records.
