American Safari Cruises American SafariOs Safari Spirit Yacht Destroyed by Fire in Seattle. American Safari Cruises said a fire aboard the 12-guest Safari Spirit, which was docked at FishermanOs Terminal in Seattle, has destroyed the yacht. No passengers were onboard when the fire broke out at approximately 1 a.m. PT. Dan Blanchard, CEO of American Safari, was on the boat and heard the fire in time to wake up a crewmember who was also on board. OI was asleep in a stateroom when I heard popping noises,O Blanchard said. OI quickly exited to the outside deck and woke up the engineer/mate sleeping on board. We were both able to find our way safely to the dock and firefighters responded quickly. There were no injuries. The fuel tanks were not affected and there have been no spills reported. The cause of the fire is unknown but is under investigation.O Safari Spirit was undergoing general maintenance in preparation for its summer season cruising AlaskaOs Inside Passage out of Juneau, Alaska. Its first Alaska cruise was scheduled for May 11. Guests scheduled aboard the yacht this summer in Alaska will be contacted with other travel options. Apr 27, 2012

Amtrak Amtrak creates new integrated emergency, security department. Amtrak is creating a new Emergency Management and Corporate Security department to integrate existing company-wide efforts into a single, cohesive unit to more effectively prepare for emergencies and disasters, mitigate their effects and allow for fast and efficient response and recovery. OThe new team will identify opportunities to strategically coordinate, train and put into practice consistent and efficient response and recovery efforts to better ensure the safety and security of our customers and employees,O said Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman. There are eight emergency management-related functions currently located in various Amtrak departments. These functions will be integrated into the new department whose primary focus is emergency preparedness, continuity of operations and corporate security risk strategy. Combining these functions will provide a framework in which to plan for, respond to and recover from incidents, while also establishing and maintaining a uniform corporate security strategy. Susan Reinertson, who currently oversees the Amtrak recovery and resiliency exercise program as well as continuity of operations planning, will lead the new department. She has a background in homeland security and emergency management consulting as well as leadership experience at the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Apr 26, 2012

Nearly 100 World War II vets from Montana will visit the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., thanks to a donation to the Big Sky Honor Flight from BNSF. BNSF BNSF transports historic naval guns to Arizona for monument. The names of two battleships are known as bookends for the U.S. role in World War II: The USS Arizona was sunk by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor in 1941, and the Japanese officially surrendered to the U.S. on the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay in 1945. Today, gun barrels from each ship will be used in a WWII memorial being created in Phoenix. BNSF transported the barrels to Arizona. "BNSFOs support shouldnOt come as a surprise to anyone as the company has a long record of supporting veterans," said Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett. Celebrity Cruises Celebrity Reflection to Debut New Banquet Room, Glass Shower. Celebrity CruisesO new Reflection, the fifth and final ship in the Solstice class due out in October, will feature a new ballroom that can be set up to seat 96 people banquet-style, believed to be a first at sea. The other new feature on the ship garnering attention is a glass-enclosed shower cantilevered over the side of the ship, located in a top-end suite. Both new features of the ship were unveiled at CLIAOs cruise3sixty conference in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
