Alaska Railroad plans to continue levee work along the Tanana River next month as part of a $188 million railroad bridge project. Atlantic City Atlantic City, N.J., resort casino will open 6 weeks ahead of schedule. The $2.4 billion Revel casino-resort will open six weeks earlier than planned -- and it will open as a virtually smoke-free facility, this feature notes. The grand opening is slated for May, but the huge casino-resort will start accommodating guests April 2. Blount Cruises Blount Offers One Additional Ontario Cruise in August. Blount Small Ship Adventures is offering an additional cruise developed in partnership with Ontario tourism officials. OGreat Explorations: Lake Huron and Lake MichiganO is a nine-night cruise vacation developed as part of a partnership between Blount and the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership. The cruise departs Aug. 15 and will sail on Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, Georgian Bay, Soo Locks, Straits of Mackinac and Lake Superior. Highlights include Toronto, Mackinac Island and Chicago. Carnival Cruise Lines Carnival Set to Increase 2013 Capacity in San Juan, Miami. Carnival Cruise Lines will increase capacity on its seven-day Southern Caribbean itineraries from San Juan, as well as on its four- and five-day cruises from Miami, deploying newer, larger ships in both markets. The 2,974-passenger Carnival Valor will launch a five-port, seven-day schedule from San Juan beginning Feb. 10, 2013. It will replace the 2,758-passenger Carnival Victory, which will reposition to Miami to assume the Carnival DestinyOs four- and five-day cruises beginning Feb. 4, 2013. Additionally, Carnival Destiny will offer a 16-day trans-Atlantic crossing departing Miami Feb. 4 and arriving Civitavecchia (Rome) on Feb. 20, 2013. Featured ports on the crossing include Ponta Delgada (Azores), Portugal; Malaga, Spain; Monte Carlo, Monaco; and Genoa and Livorno, Italy. Details on the Carnival DestinyOs deployment following the crossing will be announced at a later date. The Carnival ValorOs new itinerary from San Juan features extended calls at five islands -- St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten. Starting Feb. 4, 2013, Carnival Victory will offer three itineraries from Miami. Four-day Olong weekendO cruises departing Thursdays call at Key West and Cozumel. Carnival Cruise Lines Carnival unveils expanded European itineraries for 2013. Carnival Cruise Lines has presented its widest-ever list of European sailings for 2013, with 17 voyages from April 22 to Oct. 31, 2013, aboard the Carnival Legend. Destinations include the Mediterranean, the British Isles and the Baltic on 12-night sailings with a number of port calls. Feb 15, 2012

Carnival Cruise Lines Carnival 2013 Europe Program to Include Norway, U.K. Homeport. Carnival Cruise Lines will launch its first Norwegian fjords itinerary and first extended program from the U.K., as well as cruises to the Baltic, Mediterranean and British Isles, beginning in spring 2013. The Carnival Legend will operate 12-day voyages to Norway/Western Europe, the British Isles and the Baltic departing from Dover (London), along with 12-day Mediterranean cruises departing from Venice, Barcelona and Dover. In total, the Carnival Legend will operate 17 European cruises between April 22 and Oct. 31, 2013, visiting 34 ports across 18 countries. The program includes a ONorway & Western EuropeO cruise that includes sailing in the Norwegian fjords. The voyage will operate Sept. 1 to 13, 2013, and visit Alesund, Bergen, Stavanger, and Oslo, Norway; Hamburg, Germany; Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Zeebrugge (Bruges), Brussels, Belgium; and Le Havre (Paris), France. A OBritish Isles, Norway & FranceO voyage will depart Sept. 13, 2013, and stop at Stavanger, Norway; Edinburgh, Invergordon, and Glasgow (Greenock) Scotland; Belfast, Northern Ireland; Dublin, Ireland; and Le Havre (Paris), France. Six OBaltic Wonders & St. PetersburgO cruises will visit Copenhagen, Denmark; Berlin (Warnemunde), Germany; Helsinki, Finland; St. Petersburg, Russia (overnight call); Tallinn, Estonia; and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Departure dates include June 21, July 3, July 15 July 27, Aug. 8 and Aug. 20, 2013. The June 21 departure will visit Zeebrugge instead of Amsterdam. The Mediterranean cruise program will include 12-day cruises from Venice to Barcelona departing May 4, May 28 and Oct. 31. They visit Dubrovnik, Croatia; Messina, Naples, Civitavecchia (Rome), and Livorno, Italy; and Marseilles, France. The May 4 and Oct. 31 departures also include Athens, Greece, and Izmir, Turkey, while the May 28 voyage stops at Monte Carlo and Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Carnival Legend will also operate 12-day Western Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona to Dover June 9-21 and from Dover to Barcelona Sept. 25-Oct. 7, 2013. These cruises visit Marseille, France; Monte Carlo, Monaco; Livorno and Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy; Malaga, Spain; and Lisbon, Portugal. Also featured are three OGrand MediterraneanO voyages sailing from Barcelona to Venice April 22, May 16 and Oct. 19, 2013. These voyages stop at Palma de Mallorca, Spain; Monte Carlo, Monaco; Marseille, France; Livorno, Naples, Civitavecchia (Rome) and Messina, Italy; and Dubrovnik, Croatia, along with an overnight call in Venice. The Oct. 19 voyage will include a stop at Olbia (Sardinia), Italy, instead of Monaco. Rounding out Carnival LegendOs 2013 Europe program is a 12-day voyage roundtrip from Barcelona from Oct. 7 to 19, with calls at Marseille, France; Livorno, Civitavecchia (Rome), and Naples, Italy; Dubrovnik, Croatia; and Venice (overnight call) and Messina, Italy. Crystal Cruises Crystal Cruises boosts stationary overnights on sailings. Crystal Cruises is increasing the number of voyages that offer overnights at the beginning or the end of the cruise in an initiative that will extend through 2013 and the next year. The move seeks to avert stress for guests arising from problems such as lost luggage and late flight arrivals. The Crystal Serenity and the Crystal Symphony have doubled the number of sailings that start with days in port, and 69 overnights are planned in a number of European ports. Feb 17, 2012

Crystal Cruises Crystal Cruises Bookends Sailings with More Stationary Overnights. Crystal Cruises has added shipboard overnights at its embarkation ports at the beginning of cruises. For the upcoming European season, Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony have doubled the number of voyages that begin with nights in port. The move eases the worry of late flight arrivals, lost luggage and relocating to or from hotels. Crystal has also added overnights to the middle and/or end of the majority of cruises this year. Overnights at the disembarkation ports of Venice, Barcelona or Istanbul, for example, let guests see significantly more of the final destination without having to move to a hotel or rush to the airport to fly home. CrystalOs new strategy will extend into 2014, with more than 85 percent of next yearOs 64 itineraries offering two or more days in port, and a more than 50 percent increase in overnights on embarkation day. Until Feb. 28, per-person OBook NowO fares for 2012 start at $1,360 per person, double occupancy, for Mediterranean cruises, $2,965 for the rest of Europe, $2,255 for a New England/Canada voyage, and $3,370 for Hawaii and the South Pacific region. CSX Deteriorating bridges in Ohio need repair to prevent collapses. A total of 133 bridges on Ohio roads are "fracture-critical," including the Route 16 bridge above the CSX tracks in Licking County, according to the state transportation department. State law requires bridge inspections to occur every year, twice as often as federal rules require. "We know we have to keep an eye on them, and we get up close and personal," said Tim Keller, state DOT Office of Structural Engineering administrator. Feb 14, 2012
