Department of music celebrates the seasons.

The Department of Music hosted several events to celebrate the seasons, including autumn, the holidays and spring.

First, the university treated the community to melodic sounds thanks to a variety of vocal groups that performed in the annual Fall Concert, which was open to the public. The university also celebrated its talented student instrumentalists with an evening of music at the annual Fall Instrumental Ensemble Concert. The concert featured several ensembles from the university family, including the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Pep Band, Chamber Orchestra, Drum Line, Jazz Ensemble, String Ensemble, Flute Choir and Brass Ensemble.

When the holiday season arrived, the Music Department was prepared for a series of celebrations for this special occasion as well. Two holiday concerts were presented to the public as a thank you for all its continued support. More than 900 members of the community attended the concerts, which included performances by the HPU vocal ensembles, led by Dr. Marc Foster, chair of the Department of Music, and the North Carolina Symphony, led by music director Grant Llewellyn.

It celebrated the winter season in February with its Choral and Instrumental Winter Concert, held by the Department of Music. When the temperatures warmed, it also celebrated the season with a Spring Instrumental Concert in the Pauline Theatre of the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. The concert was free and open to the public and featured several university groups, including the HPU Percussion Ensemble, Chamber Ensemble, Jazz Combo and Symphonic Band. A variety of works were performed, including "Shock Factor/' which was written by HPU instructor of composition Nathan Daughtrey; "American Elegy;" and several other familiar pieces of jazz.
