Even in his eloquence, Edward W. Said has understated the rottenness of the Bush military campaign in Iraq ("A Mask for Pillage," June issue). It will be the height of folly for the Democrats to start nitpicking about who supported and opposed the Iraq military campaign, instead of concentrating on getting decisive control of the White House and Congress.

In "A Mask for Pillage," Said stated that the United States is on a "quest for reshaping reality and imparting democracy to everyone." The Bush Administration has little to do with exporting democracy because its policies are engaged in force-feeding capitalism to other nations.
