Stating its intentions up front to become the state's leading cargo air carrier, Alaska Central Express Inc. is fast moving ahead on its target. ACE is among dozens of Alaska-based small-package transporters serving the Great Land, where cargo delivery sometimes assumes adventure proportions.

NEW FACE AT ACE

Among the latest news in a competitive industry, there's a new face that fronts the ACE Web site and the company's marketing material. The flying "Ace" (with the look of a vintage WWII Air Force pilot) embodies "American values, courage and doing whatever it takes to get the job done," according to a company press release announcing the new branding campaign. "Ace (the character) isn't interested in being in the limelight or getting the hero's treatment," says Mike Bergt, general manager of the Anchorage-based airline. In announcing the campaign, ACE called itself the state's largest "unknown" airline, whose aircraft slip into and out of cities and towns across the state often without the locals even knowing of its presence.

The company already reports similarities between its operations and the persona of its new icon. Its pilots provide the most scheduled all-cargo air service in Alaska, according to ACE. And its "planes fly in the middle of the night to destinations most people never visit and may not even be able to find on a map," according to its press announcement. ACE already provides scheduled air cargo service to 18 Alaska towns and general cargo service to an additional 20 Alaska communities. The company also provides charter service and arranges connections to Alaska from Outside.

FAST AND EFFICIENT

Operating from 5901 Lockheed Ave., North Air Park, at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, ACE flies a fleet of Beechcraft 1900C pressurized turboprop aircraft, also providing FedEx service to the Panhandle and Western Alaska destinations. "The planes fly through all sorts of weather that leaves passenger aircraft on the ground," the company reports. "They land on dirt, gravel, grass and pavement. And most important for rural Alaska...
