The Defense Legal Services Agency
(DLSA) was established in 1981 and
is under the authority, direction, and
control of the General Counsel of the
Department of Defense, who also
serves as its Director. DLSA provides
legal advice and services for specif‌i ed
DOD components and adjudication of
personnel security cases for DOD and
other assigned Federal agencies and
departments. It also provides technical
support and assistance for development
of the Department’s legislative program;
coordinates positions on legislation and
Presidential Executive orders; provides a
centralized legislative and congressional
document reference and distribution
point for the Department; maintains the
Department’s historical legislative f‌i les;
and administers programs governing
standards of conduct and alternative
dispute resolution.

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA)
is under the authority, direction, and
control of the Under Secretary of
Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and
Logistics. DLA supports both the logistics
requirements of the military services and
their acquisition of weapons and other
materiel. It provides logistics support
and technical services to all branches of
the military and to a number of Federal
agencies. DLA supply centers consolidate
the requirements of the military services
and procure the supplies in suff‌i cient
quantities to meet their projected
needs. DLA manages supplies in eight
commodity areas: fuel, food, clothing,
construction material, electronic supplies,
general supplies, industrial supplies, and
medical supplies. Information on DLA’s
