Some major consumer brands are thriving even in the poverty-stricken, remote and arid regions of Namibia. According to The Namibia Economist (Windhoek), brand support from rural consumers is often discounted because of conditions in the far-flung areas of the country. These areas, says the newspaper, are usually not served by the country's electric grid, and phone service is likewise unavailable. Some radio stations and one television station are the only media outlets for ad campaigns, and access and reach are limited.
