This issue is dedicated to the memory and work of Dennis Karjala. Professor Karjala spent nearly forty years as a law professor at Arizona State University. During that time, he was one of the most prolific intellectual property scholars in the country. With a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, Professor Karjala was one of the first legal scholars to recognize and advance serious research into the intellectual property protections for new technologies. He was a founding member of the Center for Law, Science and Innovation at Arizona State University, the nation's oldest and largest center dedicated to exploring the intersections of technology and law. Although his work spanned many subjects, he was chiefly known for his leadership in opposing, ultimately unsuccessfully, the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act, which significantly increased the length of copyright protection.
