The public brush-up following leaked emails from a small number of DLA Piper attorneys about billing practices has led to hand-wringing, soul-searching and one-upmanship around the legal blogosphere and media. As thelegalbratblawg noted: "Most [organizations], not just law firms, have some emails hiding on their servers that would--if taken literally and out of context--show that [organization] in a bad light ... So anyone doing too much hand-wringing at the email etiquette of others had better keep their fingers crossed that their luck holds in the future." Good point. who hasn't read a humorous or seemingly innocuous email that, taken out of context, could be perceived as negative or inflammatory?
