People who may have had personal and financial information compromised in a 2017 Equifax data have until next week to file a claim.
The deadline to file is Jan. 22.
People whose financial data was compromised in the breach are eligible for free credit monitoring services as well payment for time spent attempting to remedy identity theft and identity restoration services, as outlined in a class-action settlement.
To determine if you were affected by the security breach, check the Equifax lookup tool. Then visit the settlement website to file a claim.
Consumers are advised to check their credit reports by going to annualcreditreport.com for a free copy. The S.C. Department of Consumer Affairs suggests consumers continue to monitor all financial, medical and government benefit statements for suspicious activity.
