TWO EVENTS WOULD FOREVER SHAPE DAVID DRUCKER'S LIFE.

The first was being drafted into the U.S. Army and serving as a law clerk in Vietnam. He became intrigued by law and would go on to become a lawyer. A second life-changing event would come after his return from Vietnam when he settled in Conifer midway through a cross-country stint selling records and T-shirts to music stores.

"I was sitting there in Conifer watching Bob Dylan on TV in '76," recalls Drucker. "There were these rabbit ears on the TV and the picture was as grainy as it could possibly be."

He figured there had to be a better way, and as a child of the Space Age--a guy who today still gets starry-eyed reflecting on Alan Shepard's first launch--space was the answer.

He became a lawyer for United Cable Corp., would go on to co-found the satellite dish company EchoStar Communications Corp., own TV stations in Alaska and Colorado, own the closest radio station to Havana--WKIZ in Key West; and set up WildBlue Communications to offer high-speed Internet access in small cities, remote and rural areas.

To feed his music soul, he co-founded Music Link, a Denver-based rock video production company, and ultimately met Jakob Dylan, son of his troubadour hero.

Today Drucker is at home in hiking boots and jeans at his company headquarters, @Contact Inc., a teleport of dozens of satellite dishes in a scenic area of Sedalia where rocket models and photos of Drucker aboard MicroSoft co-founder Paul Allen's America's Cup entry enliven the modest...
