Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter Tax School draws overflow crowd.

The CityPlace Conference Center in downtown Dallas was the site for this year's two-day Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter Tax School. 2012 may be the last year the program is held m this venue, inasmuch as nearly 300 tax professionals attended, testing the conference room's seating capacity. "We are gratified at the turnout," explained Linda Dickens of Texas Instruments, a program co-chair. "We may well have to consider other accommodations next year," added Angela Schlemmer of Fluor Corporation, the other co-chair.

On day-one the course focused on State and Local Tax matters. The program began with Loren Chumley of KPMG and William Backstrom from Jones Walker, who addressed on Sales Tax Developments. Next, Kendall Houston and Michael Petrik, both of Alston & Bird, examined the state taxing regimes that permit intercompany transactions adjustments. The final morning session, led by Marc Simonetti of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, explored the various dimensions of Alternative Apportionment under the title "Alternative Apportionment: Sword or Shield."

In the afternoon, Maureen Pechacek and John Flock, both of PricewaterhouseCoopers, helped participants navigate the Credits and Incentives terrain. The day concluded with an "All States Update" led by Marilyn Wethekam and Jordan Goodman of Horwood Marcus & Berk.

On the second day of the program, the agenda shifted to federal tax matters. Mary (Handy) Hevener of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius explored the broad range of tax traps associated with a mobile workforce.
