The Delmer Ray Threadgill Memorial Scholarship dinner took place on the evening of Tuesday, December 4, 2012, in the Umphrey Lee Center at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Over 200 family, friends and colleagues of Del Threadgill attended the event, which celebrated Del's significant contributions to the tax industry. A number of guests traveled from as far as Washington, DC, to support the evening's effort to endow a permanent college scholarship in Del's name. The scholarship will benefit SMU Masters of Science in Accounting students with aspirations to pursue a career in taxation.

Both of Del's sons, Mat and Warren Threadgill, spoke of their father and thanked their mother, Lane Threadgill, for so many years of support. Those speaking of Del included Rachelle Bernstein, a colleague from Del's days of service on the National Retail Federation Taxation Committee, and Mitch Frank, who worked for Del at JCPenney for more than 20 years and who currently serves on the Tax Executives Institute Dallas Chapter Board of Directors.
