Cyber Officers to Take to the Seas.

* The Navy is currently treading water as the service tries to better integrate cyber capabilities on board its ships. One idea that Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Michael Gilday is leaning toward: having at least one cyber officer stationed on each ship.

The tools and capabilities that those officers would likely have at their disposal would be for defensive operations, he said at the Surface Navy Association's annual conference.

"The [information system technicians] right now do a lot of operations stuff. I think our IT cadre are evolving to also play... more of a defensive role on our ships, and so that's the direction that we're heading in," Gilday said.
