Cyber experts red flag online voting.

Many states have been considering online voting in this year's presidential election. However, the technology isn't ready, Bruce McConnell, Department of Homeland Security's senior cyber-security adviser, recently told a group of state and local election officials on commoncause.org.

"Like almost all computer systems, voting systems are vulnerable. And when you connect them to the Internet that vulnerability increases," McConnell said. "The security infrastructure around Internet voting is both immature and under-resourced."

McConnell based many of his comments on an internal report on security considerations of remote electronic voting prepared by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for the Election Assistance Commission.
