Cyber division to tackle small business challenges.

The path to an enhanced cyber security posture is well-trodden by big contractors, but small and medium companies are often challenged by a lack of access to expertise and capital.

The National Defense industrial Association's NDIA's Cyber Division is taking on the how-to challenge by looking at applied cyber security with a specific focus on small- and medium-sized firms.

Contractors are investing heavily to enhance the security of their networks .and systems. Voluntary, regulatory and policy-driven requirements--all responding to threats--have served to motivate action and elevate oversight to the highest corporate levels.

Even those who are downstream suppliers to the large primes often find themselves challenged to achieve compliance. Much has been written about what needs to be done--far less is available on how to do it.

Kicking off what is planned to be a year-long effort, the division will present a symposium, "Applied Cyber Security: Strategies to Implement a Relevant Cyber Security Framework" Oct. 7-8 (see www.ndia.org/meetings/5840).
