The impacts of global warming are a major issue for the Ocean State, including warmer temperatures in Narragansett Bay that affect fish populations and rising sea levels along the state's coastline. In response, CLF has proposed legislation calling for dramatic cuts in global warming pollution from all sources: 20 percent by 2020 and 80 percent by 2050. The Rhode Island Global Warming Solutions Act was proposed by CLF and a coalition of state environmental groups. By setting an ambitious mandatory cap on the state's overall carbon emissions, the Act is expected to trigger major new investments in clean energy solutions.

"This emissions reduction bill is the kind of bold, decisive action we need our government to take in order to avert the impacts of climate change," said Cynthia Giles, Director of CLF's RI Advocacy Center. "Stabilizing and then reducing greenhouse gas emissions must become our collective goal"
