STATISTICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Crude oil and natural gas liquids production
Provisional estimates for OPEC crude oil production in May
2019 totaled 30.3 mn bpd. For the 12 members of OPEC,
natural gas liquids (NGL) production for May was 5.4 mn
bpd, bringing total combined production of crude oil and
NGL to 35.7 mn bpd, up 2.7 mn bpd or 7.1% lower than the
figure for May 2018.
Crude oil and NGL production in the OECD 30 countries
totaled 25.5 mn bpd in May, up by 2.1 mn bpd or 8.8% from
the previous year.
Production in the countries of the Commonwealth of
Independent States (CIS) for May 2019 was 15.0 mn bpd,
down 0.1 mn bpd or 0.5% compared with May 2018, and for
the rest of the world, production was 16.6 mn bpd, up by 0.4
mn bpd or 2.2% higher than the figure from the
previous year.
Total world production of crude oil and NGL for May
2019 totaled 92.8 mn bpd, a decrease of 0.4 mn bpd or 0.4%
compared with the figure for May 2018.
1|NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
US production of natural gas for March 2019 was 78.7 bcm,
up 8.4 bcm or 11.9% compared with March 2018.
In Canada production in March totaled 16.9 bcm, an
increase of less than 0.1 bcm or 0.8% compared with March
2018. Production for OECD Europe-23 was 19.9 bcm, a
decrease of 1.1 bcm or 5.4% on the previous year.
Natural gas production in the CIS countries was 91.2
bcm, up 5.3 bcm or 6.1% compared with March 2018.
Over all, world total natural gas production in March
2019 was 368.5 bcm, an increase of 15.7 bcm or 4.5% com-
pared with the figure for March 2018.
2|COAL AND LIGNITE
PRODUCTION
World total combined production of coal and lignite in
March 2019 was 547.7 mn mt, down 2.6 mn mt, a decrease
of 0.5% on the previous year.
Production in the United States in March was 47.8 mn
mt, a decrease of 12.7 mn mt or 21% compared with the fig-
ure for March 2018.
The CIS countries produced 51.7 mn mt of coal and lig-
nite in March 2019, an increase of 2.1 mn mt or 4.1% com-
pared with March 2018.
3|ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION
Net total world production of electricity in March 2019 was
41.8 bn kWh or 2% higher than in March 2018, at 2085.2
bn kWh.
In China, net electricity production increased by 490.8 bn
kWh, or 6.4% on the figure for March 2019, at 528.0 bn
kWh. US production for March 2019 was up 9.9 bn kWh, or
3.1% compared with the figure for March 2018 at 329.8
bn kWh.
Net electricity production in OECD Europe-23 decreased
by 9.7 bn kWh, or 3.1% compared with March 2018, at
302.7 bn kWh.
4|PRODUCTS DEMAND
Demand for oil products in the United States for March
2019 was 20.3 mn bpd, an increase of 0.1 mn bpd compared
with March 2018.
Across the OECD 30 countries, products demand was
44.9 mn bpd, down by 0.6 mn bpd or 1.4% compared with
March 2018.
Products demand in Japan for March 2019 was 3.9 mn
bpd, a decrease of 0.2 mn bpd or 5.8% compared with the
previous year.
Total world demand for petroleum products in March
2019 was 91.9 mn bpd, a decrease of 5.4 mn bpd or 4.6%
compared with the figure for March 2018.
