STATISTICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Crude oil and natural gas liquid production
Provisional estimates for OPEC crude oil production in
March 2018 totaled 30.3 mn bpd. For the 12 members of
OPEC, natural gas liquids (NGL) production for March was
5.8 mn bpd, bringing total combined production of crude oi l
and NGL to 36.0 mn bpd, down 2.4 mn bpd or 6.3% lower
than the figure for March 2017.
Crude oil and NGL production in the OECD 30 countries
totaled 26.3 mn bpd in March, up by 2.2 mn bpd or 9.1%
from the previous year.
Production in the countries of the Commonwealth of Inde-
pendent States (CIS) for March 2018 was 15.3 mn bpd, up
0.3 mn bpd or 1.8% compared with March 2017, and for the rest
of the world, production was 16.4 mn bpd, up by than
0.2 mn bpd or 1% higher than the figure from the previous year.
Total world production of crude oil and NGL for March
2018 totaled 94.1 mn bpd, an increase of 0.2 mn bpd or
0.2% compared with the figure for March 2017.
1|NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
US production of natural gas for January 2018 was 77.8 bcm,
up 9.4 bcm or 13.7% compared with January 2017.
In Canada production in January totaled 17.0 bcm, an
increase of less than 1.0 bcm or 0.6% compared with January
2017. Production for OECD Europe-23 was 22.1 bcm, a
decrease of 0.7 bcm or 3.1% on the previous year.
Natural gas production in the CIS countries was
87.8 bcm, up 1.8 bcm or 2.1% compared with January 2017.
Over all, world total natural gas production in January
2018 was 368.3 bcm, an increase of 29.0 bcm or 8.6% com-
pared with the figure for January 2017.
2|COAL AND LIGNITE
PRODUCTION
World total combined production of coal and lignite in
January 2018 was 538.5 mn mt, up 10.2 mn mt, an increase
of 1.9% on the previous year.
Production in the United States in January was
56.7 mn mt, a decrease of 0.6 mn mt or 1% compared with
the figure for January 2017.
The CIS countries produced 47.5 mn mt of coal and lig-
nite in January 2018, an increase of 1.9 mn mt or 4.2% com-
pared with January 2017.
3|ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION
Net total world production of electricity in January 2018 was
66.1 bn kWh or 3.1% higher than in January 2017, at
2188.8 bn kWh.
In China, net electricity production increased by
88.8 bn kWh, or 20.3% on the figure for January 2017, at
526.1 bn kWh. US production for January 2018 was up
18.4 bn kWh, or 4.9% compared with the figure for Januar y
2017 at 391.6 bn kWh.
Net electricity production in OECD Europe-23 increased
by 4.2 bn kWh, or 1.3% compared with January 2017, at
323.2 bn kWh.
4|PRODUCTS DEMAND
Demand for oil products in the United States for January
2018 was 20.5 mn bpd, a decrease of less than 0.1 mn bpd
compared with January 2017.
Across the OECD 30 countries, products demand was
44.9 mn bpd, down by 0.6 mn bpd or 1.3% compared with
January 2017.
Products demand in Japan for January 2018 was
3.5 mn bpd, a decrease of 0.1 mn bpd or 3.0% compared
with the previous year.
Total world demand for petroleum products in January
2018 was 94.7 mn bpd, a decrease of 5.3 mn bpd or 5.3%
compared with the figure for January 2017.
