STATISTICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Crude oil and natural gas liquids production
Provisional estimates for OPEC crude oil production in
April 2018 totaled 30.3 mn bpd. For the 12 members of
OPEC, natural gas liquids (NGL) production for April was
5.8 mn bpd, bringing total combined production of crude oil
and NGL to 36.2 mn bpd, down 2.3 mn bpd or 5.9% lower
than the figure for April 2017.
Crude oil and NGL production in the OECD 30 countries
totaled 26.3 mn bpd in April, up by 2.2 mn bpd or 8.9%
from the previous year.
Production in the countries of the Commonwealth of Inde-
pendent States (CIS) for April 2018 was 15.0 mn bpd, down
0.1 mn bpd or 0.1% compared with April 2017, and for the
rest of the world, production was 16.3 mn bpd, up by than 0.2
mn bpd or 1.4% higher than the figure from the previous year.
Total world production of crude oil and NGL for April
2018 totaled 93.8 mn bpd, an increase of 0.1 mn bpd or
0.1% compared with the figure for April 2017.
1|NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
US production of natural gas for February 2018 was 70.7
bcm, up 7.8 bcm or 12.4% compared with February 2017.
In Canada production in February totaled 14.7 bcm, a
decrease of less than 1.0 bcm or 2.2% compared with
February 2017. Production for OECD Europe-23 was 18.9
bcm, a decrease of 1.5 bcm or 7.1% on the previous year.
Natural gas production in the CIS countries was 83.4
bcm, up 4.0 bcm or 5% compared with February 2017.
Over all, world total natural gas production in February
2018 was 343.5 bcm, an increase of 27.4 bcm or 8.7% com-
pared with the figure for February 2017.
2|COAL AND LIGNITE
PRODUCTION
World total combined production of coal and lignite in
February 2018 was 524.4 mn mt, up 3.6 mn mt, an increase
of 0.7% on the previous year.
Production in the United States in February was 50.0 mn
mt, a decrease of 5.6 mn mt or 10.1% compared with the fig-
ure for February 2017.
The CIS countries produced 47.0 mn mt of coal and lig-
nite in February 2018, an increase of 0.5 mn mt or 1% com-
pared with February 2017.
3|ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION
Net total world production of electricity in February 2018
was 51.4 bn kWh or 2.6% higher than in February 2017, at
2,021.3 bn kWh.
In China, net electricity production increased by 490.8 bn
kWh, or 6.8% on the figure for February 2017, at 524.3 bn
kWh. US production for February 2018 was up 10.1 bn
kWh, or 3.3% compared with the figure for February 2017 at
316.6 bn kWh.
Net electricity production in OECD Europe-23 decreased
by 12.4 bn kWh, or 4.1% compared with February 2017, at
286.7 bn kWh.
4|PRODUCTS DEMAND
Demand for oil products in the United States for February
2018 was 20.3 mn bpd, an increase of 0.3 mn bpd compared
with February 2017.
Across the OECD 30 countries, products demand was
45.2 mn bpd, up by 0.4 mn bpd or 0.9% compared with
February 2017.
Products demand in Japan for February 2018 was 3.7 mn
bpd, an increase of 0.1 mn bpd or 0.6% compared with the
previous year.
Total world demand for petroleum products in February
2018 was 95.0 mn bpd, a decrease of 4.5 mn bpd or 4.5%
compared with the figure for February 2017.
