Thank you for the inspiring James Cromwell interview (by Ed Rampell, July issue). He mentioned several of the worst aspects of the meat industry: male chicks tossed into a dumpster to suffocate, animals skinned alive on the killing floor, their screams of pain and terror, the stench.

There is a saying that if slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian. Thanks to Cromwell and The Progressive , your readers got a peek through that proverbial glass wall.

One of the most important topics in the Cromwell interview is the announcement of the film he is directing for his production company, Koshari Films. The film "is about nonviolence and forgiveness."

If you examine literature, plays, films, and television, it is difficult to find nonviolent examples. There are too many stories extolling the use of violence to solve conflict or obtain justice.

We need to see how nonviolence can solve problems.
