All CPAs serving clients in Illinois who hold themselves out to the public as a CPA must register with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, under a new state law. This new registration applies to out-of-state CPAs with clients in Illinois.

The new law, effective Oct. 1, requires any CPA doing business in Illinois and who uses the CPA designation on a resume, business card, letterhead or in any other manner to register with the state.
