Registration is open for the annual CPA Day at the Capitol in Sacramento. All members are encouraged to make their arrangements to come represent yourself and your profession Jan. 31 at the Capitol.

This year's location will be the Sacramento Convention Center, which is conveniently located across the street from the Capitol.

Each year this important event lays the foundation for CalCPA's advocacy efforts for the year. Last year's CPA Day was a huge success as hundreds of CPAs filled the halls of the Capitol for meetings with their elected representatives that yielded positive results on important public policy issues.

Thanks in large part to the proactive efforts of CalCPA members at the Capitol last year, not only was the tax on services bill successfully stalled again, but important tax conformity and financial literacy legislation was introduced, passed through the legislative process and signed by Gov. Brown.

CalCPA will need another strong showing from the profession this year to continue important discussions that affect CPAs, businesses and taxpayers in California.

Attendees this year will meet with members of the Legislature, many of whom were newly elected this year, to discuss current issues facing the CPA profession in California, including a potential tax on services proposal.

All you need to do is make it to Sacramento for this free event.

CalCPA's government relations team will schedule meetings with your elected representative and other legislative leaders on your behalf. Talking points and other resources about the specific issues will be provided to attendees prior to the event. We need your help to continue the momentum.

You can register at www.calcpa.org/CPADay and make plans to be in Sacramento in January.

On the federal level, in a largely unexpected result, Donald Trump was elected the 45th president and Republicans retained a majority in both houses of Congress. Republicans will now be able to control much of the federal agenda and push forward with their priorities. This could open the door to significant policy changes on a wide range of issues, including tax reform, immigration policy, environmental regulation and a reevaluation of policies such as the Affordable Care Act.
