North Carolina's population grew by 1.1% from July 1, 2016, to July 1, 2017, as the state added 117,000 new residents. While Wake, Mecklenburg and Durham counties continue to expand, several other counties recorded even faster growth because of their suburban locations or their appeal to retirees.
