In responding to a data request, we discovered that in the original article, we reverse-coded the variable measuring
unfavorable views of the “US” and the “Americans.” We apologize to Political Research Quarterly readers for this
error. We reran the models presented in Table 2 (p. 490, only two models titled “US” and “Americans”) using correctly
coded measures. The new analysis confirms our findings about varieties of anti-Americanism and religious outlooks as
they relate to favorable views of al-Qaeda. However, the coefficients in these models for anti-Americanism variable
take the positive sign with the same magnitude when correct coding is used. Consequently, a similar shift from negative
to positive is observed in Figure 4 (p. 491) for anti-Americanism variable in these two models. Our interpretation in the
original article points to negative effects of unfavorable views of the “US” and “Americans” on favorability of al-Qaeda
on pages 491 and 492. This effect is now found to be positive. All other results and our substantive conclusions remain
unchanged. The corrected results can be viewed in the table below and in Table 2.R presented in the replication materi-
als which are available from the corresponding author Sabri Ciftci...
