Corporate executives' jobs get tougher.

Pressure on the job may be growing for corporate executives, according to a survey developed by Robert Half Management Resources, Menlo Park, Calif., a provider of senior-level accounting and finance professionals on a project and interim basis. Some 89% of senior executives polled say they believe it is more challenging to be a company leader in today's business environment than five years ago.

"Companies today face levels of government, shareholder, and public scrutiny that didn't exist five years ago," notes Paul McDonald, executive director of Robert Half. "Senior management is held more directly accountable for ensuring the integrity and financial stability of the company and spearheading growth in a competitive global market."
