The Colorado Lawyer recently sat down with Jake Eisenstein, an attorney at Fisher & Associates, to discuss his plans as chair of the CBA Young Lawyers Division. Eisenstein can be reached at jeisenstein@yourcoloradolawyers. com.

What inspired you to pursue a career in law?

When I first applied to law school, I honestly didn't know a whole lot about what a career in law would entail. I think I was attracted to the challenge and was bored with the career path I was on. Since then, I've definitely confirmed the challenging part. I've also come to appreciate how practicing law can be a very introspective and constantly evolving journey in its own right.

What brought you to Colorado?

My wife and I moved here after law school for the same reason I suspect most transplants do: the mountains and a great quality of life.

How did you get involved in the CBA ?

My mentor, Judge David Stevens, once told me that one of his few regrets was not getting involved in the bar association earlier on in his career. I started getting involved with local bar associations, which led to volunteering with MVL, then COBALT, a CBA section, and the CBA YLD.

What are some of your aspirations as chair of the CBA YLD?

I don't really have any specific pet projects planned. I suppose my aspirations are to keep the ship moving in the right direction and continue the great work that Loren Brown, Nicole Black, and the bar staff accomplished last year and that the leadership and staff have been doing for decades before them: increasing membership; increasing the wellness of our members; assisting in moving the CBA forward in line with the strategic plan; and, of course, making sure we are prepared to host the ABA YLD Fall Conference in 2017.

What do you see as some of the greatest challenges facing young lawyers today?

That's a tough question because there are so many different challenges. From my perspective, I think that high student loans and a competitive job market make it very difficult or impossible for young...
