I have called Washington, D.C., home since 1993, but do you want to know a little secret? At heart, I am a Jersey girl. Born and raised off of Route 36 in Middletown, N.J., I have fond memories of walking to the shore to see the Sandy Hook Lighthouse. The quaint shore towns remind me of the best times growing up. When Hurricane Sandy assaulted the eastern seaboard last October, my heart sank.

It was a moment that put life into perspective.

Once I got back to work, I went through my contacts to make sure that my legal marketing friends in the tri-state area were safe. What would you do if your servers flooded? How could you put on a conference in the Big Apple? What if ...?
