Company invests $23M in Laurens baking plant.

Europlasty, a global baked goods company, today announced plans to establish operations in Laurens County. The company's $23 million investment will create 155 new jobs, Europlasty said in a news release.

It is the same industrial park that was briefly home to the Muffin Mam's new headquarters and expanded production facilities. Muffin Mam announced the opening of the site in April 2019 and eventually employed more than 200 before closing in November 2021 after declaring bankruptcy, according to reports at the time.

Headquartered in Spain, Europastry specializes in high-quality bakery products, delivering pastries and baked goods to wholesalers around the world, according to the news release. The company serves more than 80 countries worldwide.

"Europastry, a world leader in bakery products based in Barcelona, Spain with U.S. headquarters in Long Island, N.Y., is proudly announcing a new investment in a plant in Laurens," the company said in the news release. "Laurens has become a strategic location, allowing the company to expand its footprint in the U.S. The new plant will start up operations soon, and more details will be provided in the following weeks."

Located in Hunter Industrial Park in Laurens, Europastry's facility will produce an assortment of brioche bread products, the release said.
