In the current uncertain economy, there's an inexpensive and results-driven way to keep employees' spirits up: dialogue frequently.

In a recent survey, nearly half (48 percent of executives cite better communication as the best remedy for low morale. Not surprisingly, one-third (33 percent) of respondents say lack of open and honest communication with staff members tops the list of management missteps that can erode morale.

The survey, conducted by Accountemps, the temporary-staffing, division of Robert Half International, queried 150 senior executives from the nation's 1,000 largest firms.
