I enjoyed Michael Breon and Randall Stellwag's outstanding article "Improving Client Relations" ("Back to Basics," October 2009). It succinctly captured vital communication strategies that most auditors learn only through years of experience (and mistakes). Showing respect, minimizing tone, listening to clients, and communicating in a direct but dispassionate manner are critical to establishing rapport with audit clients and achieving positive audit outcomes.
