There is no doubt that, with the travel restrictions from certain countries, and crackdowns on visas for foreign visitors, times have changed for those coming to the U.S. and even those Americans who travel abroad.

Kurt Stahura, dean of the College of Hospitality and Tourism at Niagara (N.Y.) University, says those who travel are well aware that U.S. policies have changed under the Trump Administration.

"People from around the world have expressed concern regarding [Pres. Donald Trump] and the ideologies he has expressed toward those from other countries, and there is a decided perception that these beliefs represent the thoughts and feelings of U.S. citizens. This means Americans traveling abroad can expect a less-welcoming attitude in certain countries and some degree of derision directed at the President from those abroad who follow U.S. news quite closely!"

In terms of actual challenges, Stahura notes the following:

* Obtaining a visa may be more difficult in some respects and easier in others. Stipulations are changing more frequently based on fluid relations with individual countries. That may result in longer waiting times.
