Come to the Table.

Leadership comes in many forms, flavors and forums, and it seldom has to do with your position or title. Professionals in every industry, including legal marketing, seem to be ever-striving for a seat and a voice at the proverbial table. Many people have a singular, narrowly focused view that there is only one table--the one surrounded by partners and c-suite executives at your organization. That might be the ultimate objective, but know that there is not just one, but many tables to aspire to and be a part of in your professional journey.

Take LMA for example. As an LMA member, you have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills and experience by volunteering on multiple levels at multiple "tables." You can lead a committee for your chapter or be a part of its board. You can become president of your chapter and attend our Leaders Conference, held every October, and sit at a table among all LMA chapter presidents to discuss and implement changes for chapters internationally. You can become a member of the LMA Board of Directors and help drive the strategy and direction for the entire organization.

It's at this table that discussions on determining the conference location and venue type are held. As we look long-range for potential annual conference locations, we seek cities and venues that meet our members' needs regarding value, desirability and time away from family and the office. With the continued growth of our conference attendance, exhibit hall and programming, along with the fact that attendees prefer a hotel setting over a convention center, we are then further challenged in finding cities and venues that fit our needs due to space options, price sensitivity and overall quality.
