The purpose of the Combat Survivability Division is to promote survivability as an essential element of combat mission effectiveness through the exchange of information between the individuals and organizations that develop requirements, design, build and tactically employ military weapon systems. The division's focus includes all aspects of survivability from avoiding (susceptibility) to withstanding and recovering from a hit by an enemy threat weapon system (vulnerability reduction and Combat Damage Repair). The division also advances the exchange of survivability information and technology between the military and civil aviation communities to improve flight safety and to mitigate the effects of terrorist acts.

The division's specific objectives are to foster greater understanding of combat survivability and flight safety issues across government and industry; encourage a cost effective and balanced approach to the design and development of survivable weapon systems; promote credible trade studies and integrated survivability assessments; bring crucial survivability issues to the attention of senior leadership in the Defense Department, industry and Congress; improve communication and cooperation between the Electronic Warfare (EW) and general Survivability communities; promote development of combat survivability as a key...
