A landmark Archives Research Agreement between four European and four Latin American countries is making available definitive texts of some of the greatest twentieth century Latin American and Caribbean writers. Coleccion Archivos unites specialists in philosophy, linquistics, history, and literature in a project that will increase recognition by international scholarship of each country's classical authors. The project further aims to reassess the literary history of Latin America in the twentieth century and establish a wide-ranging distribution for Latin American literature. All of the countries of the region and four languages--Spanish, Portuguese, French and English--are represented. In all, 120 critical editions representing 22 countries are slated for publication in their original languages. Beginning in 1992, these editions will be available in English translations.
