Codd Memorial Award Recipients Recoginized.

The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) in March announced the winners of the Col. Leo A. Codd Memorial Award. This award is given annually in memory of the late Col. Leo A. Codd, USAR (Ret.), who devoted his life to the principle that "the best guarantee of peace is a strong United States."

Codd, a native of Baltimore, graduated from Loyola College in 1916. He received M.A., LL.M., and L.H.D. degrees from Georgetown University, in Washington, D.C. For 40 years, from 1923 until his retirement 1963, he was a guiding force in the development of the American Ordnance Association (AOA) devoted to peace through industrial preparedness for defense. The AOA was eventually renamed the American Defense Preparedness Association (ADPA), and then in 1997, it merged with the National Security Industrial Association (NSIA) to form a new organization-NDIA.

Codd, who was a ROTC graduate himSelf, was a strong supporter of the ROTC Program until his death in 1971. Respectfully, the NDIA board of directors and trustees deem it appropriate that his memory be honored.

Recipients of the award are selected from junior officers (nor above the rank of major/lieutenant commander) who are instructors in the ROTC program across the country. Each of the three prizes consist of a U.S. Savings Bond in the following denominations:
