Over the past eight or nine years, many articles have been written about Colorado coal and what an attractive commodity it is, particularly to older coal-fired plants. None of these past articles that I can recall have touched on the problem of why the coal has a difficulty getting to the eastern side of the Continental Divide as well as Lee Buchsbaum's article ("Colorado coal," April).

In short, a very good article and explanation of the transportation problems facing our coal producers on the Western Slope. Other media have not recognized the problems nor do they understand that for both the BNSF and UP, Colorado is off the competitive east-west corridors each of these carriers seek to dominate.
