Cloud computing slow to take off.

Cloud applications may be the rage, but they are not the rule. TATA Consultancy Services found in a recent study that, despite all the press and technology research firm coverage of cloud computing, a minority of organizations are hosting applications in public or private clouds.

The overwhelming majority of applications in 2011 resided on-premise in the U.S. organizations (81%) and European organizations (88%). In the Asia-Pacific and Latin American organizations surveyed, those numbers were slightly lower: 72% and 61%, respectively. Those numbers are expected to change significantly by 2014, but Europe and the United States are predicted to lag behind Asia-Pacific and Latin American organizations in using the cloud to host applications.
