No matter your political persuasion, Abraham Lincoln was a courageous leader and perhaps our greatest president. After reading much about his life, I can state that he was also a vastly underappreciated trial lawyer. Despite his considerable success trying cases while "riding the circuit" before entering the national political stage, Lincoln always opted for peace:
