I am a Uruguayan by birth and as of September 14, 2001, an American citizen. I subscribe to your magazine and am proud to see the great artists, writers, and humanitarians that Latin America has produced through the years. However, there is not much said about Latin American and U.S. relations.

I am a college instructor of Spanish, and the last few years I have worked closely with some humanitarian nonprofit organizations of Americans who along with our students (from all departments, but especially from pre-reed, agriculture, and business) dedicate part of their vacation time to aid Latin Americans. Doctors, nurses, dentists, professors, and students have gone to Honduras, Mexico, and El Salvador to provide care free of charge.
