LAWNDALE -- Cleveland Mills Co. has closed, putting 200 people out of work. The plant, which produced knit fabric for clothing, began operations in 1888. Spartanburg, S.C.-based Spartan International Inc. owned Cleveland Mills and five other plants in the Carolinas and Georgia. Company officials blamed the closing on a decline in orders and the nation's economic slowdown.
